“A staged trial!” – Ilir Meta during the postponed hearing: I don’t understand the conflict with the lawyers, I have asked for Parliament’s intervention
Former president Ilir Meta expressed strong concern at Thursday’s hearing at the Special Court over its postponement due to the lawyers’ boycott, as well as the suspension of the detention deadlines. “As you know from experience in this case, just as the prosecutors also know, I have been present since the first day. The absence of the lawyers is being used abusively to suspend the detention deadlines, so that not a single day of prison is recognised for me. I do not understand the conflict between the lawyers and the Court. I cannot ask my lawyer to lose his licence,” Meta is quoted as saying at the hearing, as A2 CNN informs.
“I oppose the prosecution’s request that the running of the detention deadlines be suspended. I am here and I am for the trial to continue, or otherwise this conflict is staged. I have asked for Parliament’s intervention, I am not the cause of this conflict.” The Special Court, unable to continue the trial, postponed it, but fined the lawyers and suspended the deadlines of Meta’s measure. The latter said at the hearing, after the panel left the room, that the conflict is staged by the friends of Ergys Agasi.
