A tribute to Justin Verlander: Detroit Tigers wear personalized t-shirts before his final MLB start
Detroit Tigers players showed up at Comerica Park wearing personalized t-shirts bearing photographs of Justin Verlander, as a tribute ahead of his final MLB start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The club also released a video homage to commemorate his long career in the league.
As Bleacher Report notes, Verlander began his career with the Detroit Tigers in 2005, returned to Detroit after a stint on the injured list and in July announced his decision to retire. A three-time Cy Young Award winner and two-time World Series champion, he was honored on Friday with a pre-retirement ceremony at Comerica Park.
Verlander closed his career with Saturday’s start against the Pirates, while the team’s tributes and the pre-game ceremony underlined his top-level contribution across two decades in MLB. According to Bleacher Report, fans and teammates gave him a special send-off before his final outing on the field.
