AKR: Faton Peci unilaterally broke the governing coalition in Mitrovica

The chairman of the New Kosovo Alliance (AKR), Emir Abrashi, has announced that the governing coalition in Mitrovica, of which AKR was also a part, was broken on Wednesday unilaterally by the mayor, Faton Peci.

According to Abrashi, the decision to terminate the coalition came after the judgment of the Basic Court in Pristina in the case initiated by Behgjet Pacolli against Peci.

Pacolli announced on Wednesday that the Basic Court in Pristina had approved his lawsuit and had obliged Peci to compensate him for the non-material damage related to the statements made against him in November 2024.

Abrashi has said that the manner and the moment of the coalition’s termination show that personal conflicts have been placed above the interest of the citizens of Mitrovica.

As a result of the decision, Gani Rrustemi has also been relieved of duty; from AKR’s ranks he had led the Directorate for Economy, Development, Tourism and European Integration.

Other media reports have also announced that Peci has terminated cooperation with AKR and that Rrustemi has been relieved of the position of municipal director.

Abrashi has stressed that the lawsuit against Peci was initiated by Pacolli in an individual capacity, while adding that he has held no leading or executive functions in AKR since August of last year.

“Consequently, transferring a personal court dispute into municipal governance relations is unjustifiable and to the detriment of institutional stability and the citizens’ interest,” Abrashi declared.

According to him, local governance must be guided by responsibility towards citizens, work and results, and not by personal conflicts.

“Today’s decision proves that such a principle does not apply to our former partners in this coalition either,” said the AKR chairman.

Abrashi added that AKR concludes its participation in the governing coalition in Mitrovica claiming to have left behind “concrete work and results”.

He announced that the AKR branch in Mitrovica will continue its political activity and organization, with the aim of winning the citizens’ support in the future to lead the municipality.

“AKR in Mitrovica will continue strongly its organization and its work, with the aim of winning the citizens’ trust and taking back the responsibility for leading the municipality,” Abrashi declared./Telegrafi.
