An employee costs employers an average of 65,672 denars a month: in IT the cost doubles

According to data from the State Statistical Office’s 2024 labor cost survey, an employee cost employers an average of 788,066 denars a year, or about 65,672 denars a month. The data was processed with administrative data from the Public Revenue Office and the Employment Agency.

The cost per actual working hour was 450 denars, while an employee worked an average of 1,752 actual hours a year, according to the Office’s survey.

The most expensive sector is ‘Information and communications,’ where the annual cost per employee reaches 1,453,846 denars, or about 121,154 denars a month — almost double the national average.

The data highlight the gap between the total cost an employer covers for an employee and the net salary the employee takes home — an issue that continues to fuel debate about the fiscal burden of labor in the country.
