“An Oak Tree” announces full cast: Suranne Jones, Dónal Finn and Tanya Reynolds join Tim Crouch’s London experiment
Three more big stars join the lineup of guest artists in Tim Crouch’s theatrical experiment “An Oak Tree”, which will play at The Other Palace in London from October 7 to November 15. Suranne Jones, Dónal Finn and Tanya Reynolds are the latest names confirmed for the production that challenges the very concept of acting: each evening, a different guest artist takes the stage alongside Crouch having never read or rehearsed the text — as West End Theatre reports.
Suranne Jones, known for her roles in “Doctor Foster” and “Vigil”, will take the stage on November 15; Dónal Finn, seen in “Young Sherlock” and in “Hadestown”, performs on November 1; while Tanya Reynolds, known from “Ted Lasso” and the Almeida Theatre, takes her turn on the evening of October 24. They join an already stellar list including Juliet Stevenson (October 18), Olivia Williams (October 10), Gemma Whelan (October 15), as well as Rosalie Craig, Sean Gilder, Sacha Dhawan, Hammed Animashaun and Brian Gleeson — more than 19 guest artists in total during the season.
The world premiere of “An Oak Tree” was held in 2005, and since then the play has been performed hundreds of times in more than 19 countries, becoming one of the most influential works of 21st-century theatre. The list of guest artists over the years reads like a “hall of fame”: Frances McDormand, David Tennant, Jessie Buckley, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Michelle Terry. The story follows a grieving father who confronts the stage hypnotist involved in his daughter’s death — but each evening is unique, because the guest doesn’t know what will happen.
The direction is by Tim Crouch himself, with Karl James and Andy Smith, music by Pete Gill and pianist Simon Crane. The production comes from Francesca Moody Productions — the Olivier award-winning company behind “Fleabag” and “Baby Reindeer” — as part of its new season at The Other Palace, alongside “Garry Starr: Classic Penguins” and “Feeling Afraid As If Something Terrible Is Going to Happen”, both born at the Edinburgh Fringe.
