Ari Aster’s “Scapegoat” Expands with Three New Cast Members as Ella Purnell Joins Scarlett Johansson
“Fallout” star Ella Purnell has joined the cast of “Scapegoat,” director Ari Aster’s new mystery film for studio A24. According to Deadline’s September 24 report, she is joined by Caleb Landry Jones, known from “Get Out,” and Samba Schutte of “Pluribus.”
The trio joins a cast that already includes Scarlett Johansson in the lead role, Jacob Elordi, and Jude Law – the latter was only reported a day earlier to be in talks for the project. The news confirms the cast expansion as production gears up for the start of filming.
“Scapegoat” is Aster’s fifth feature film, following “Hereditary,” “Midsommar,” “Beau Is Afraid,” and “Eddington.” The director also wrote the screenplay and will produce the film together with Lars Knudsen through the Square Peg banner, while A24 handles distribution. This is the first collaboration between Aster and Johansson.
Reports have circulated about the story – which A24 and Aster have not confirmed – that the film centers on a surgeon (Johansson) who operates on a character inspired by Jake Paul; the procedure goes wrong and the patient dies, with the fallout bringing the antagonist face to face with the deceased’s wife and brother, as ComingSoon.net reports.
Filming is expected to begin in the state of New York on November 2, 2026, and run through January 14, 2027.
