Armed with a knife and two hammers, young Albanian terrifies passersby in Romano di Lombardia
A 30-year-old of Albanian origin caused panic among passersby and school pupils in the center of Romano di Lombardia, Italy, as he moved around armed with a knife and two stolen hammers.
The incident took place near a bus station where high school students were waiting. Alarmed citizens immediately alerted the municipal police operations center about the presence of a person in an aggravated psychophysical state, suspected of being under the influence of narcotics, who was threatening passersby with a folding-blade knife.
Police services, led by commander Arcangelo Di Nardo, managed to identify the 30-year-old, already known to law enforcement, by reviewing the security cameras of businesses near the scene. After a search of the area, officers located him in “Papa Giovanni XXIII” square, holding a large hammer in each hand.
Police managed to confiscate the hammers and, during a physical search, found an 8-centimeter-blade knife as well as about one gram of a cocaine-type narcotic substance. Further investigations revealed that the two hammers had been stolen that same morning from the van of a construction worker carrying out works in the area. Security camera footage and testimonies collected by police also documented that the arrested man had attacked and threatened three other people during the same day.
