Arrest of the former SHISH chief: Conference of Chairmen reviews the DP’s request for a motion with debate
The Conference of Chairmen convenes today at 09:00 to review the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group’s request to hold a motion with debate in connection with the former director of SHISH, Vlora Hyseni.
In the request addressed to Parliament, the Democrats demand that light be shed on the manner of Hyseni’s selection and appointment at the head of the State Intelligence Service, the exercise of her duties, institutional oversight and the circumstances of her removal.
Part of the request relates to information made public about suspicions that Hyseni, while leading SHISH, passed classified data and information to citizen Ergys Agasi, who is being investigated by the Special Prosecution.
The DP also asks Parliament to examine the control and accountability mechanisms that functioned during her mandate, as well as the role of state institutions in overseeing the activity of the former SHISH chief.
The motion is also expected to focus on the issue of classified information security. The Democrats demand verification of whether classified information was compromised and, if so, to what extent, and what measures were taken to protect SHISH’s information and personnel.
The request also includes the institutional and political responsibility of the Prime Minister and other state structures that played a role in the process of selecting, appointing, overseeing and removing the director of SHISH.
According to the DP, parliamentary scrutiny of this matter is directly linked to the exercise of Parliament’s control over institutions covering national security and to the need for transparency over verification and oversight mechanisms.
In conclusion, the Democratic parliamentary group asks the Conference of Chairmen to set the date when the motion will take place in a plenary session. The DP stresses in the document that the debate must be held while respecting the independence of the justice bodies, the presumption of innocence and the rules on classified information.
