“Avengers: Endgame Encore” grosses over 17 crore rupees in two days in India — earnings to merge with the original, “Avatar” record at risk
Seven years after its 2019 premiere, “Avengers: Endgame” has returned to cinemas around the world with the special “Encore” version, and the first signs show that fan nostalgia is turning into impressive box-office figures.
India is welcoming the return with particular enthusiasm: as Filmfare reports, the film collected around 7.25 crore rupees on day one (Friday, 25 September) and rose slightly to 7.65 crore rupees on Saturday (26 September), passing a total of over 17 crore rupees gross in India alone in the first two days.
The novelty of the “Encore” version lies in the additional footage: according to Filmfare, there are four new scenes in total, three of them within the end credits — but the fourth scene appears only in IMAX cinemas or on certified Infinity Vision screens, a choice that pushes fans toward the premium format.
The biggest news is the race for the all-time record: the “Endgame Encore” earnings will be combined with those of the original film, which currently holds $2,810,639,100 and second place among the highest-grossing films of all time, just behind “Avatar” with $2,923,710,708. After “Avatar”‘s 2021 re-release snatched back first place, the race is now reopened — and with the momentum of the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday”, “Avatar”‘s position is no longer secure, as Filmfare notes.
The success in India follows a strong opening in North America, where “Endgame Encore” topped the weekend box office with around $26 million — a return that is giving Marvel Studios another triumphant week in cinemas.
