Baked Trout with Garlic and Lemon — A Classic Mediterranean Recipe
Trout is one of the most beloved fish on Albanian tables, and when baked in the oven with garlic and lemon, it turns into a light, full-flavored dish. This classic Mediterranean recipe calls for few ingredients, but the result is impressive: tender white flesh, a fresh citrus aroma and a touch of extra virgin olive oil that makes it unforgettable. Ideal for a light family dinner or for guests, ready in just 30 minutes.
Ingredients (for 4 servings)
- 4 cleaned trout (about 250–300 g each)
- 4 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
- 2 lemons (one thinly sliced, one for juice)
- 80 ml extra virgin olive oil
- 1 bunch fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary (optional)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 100 ml dry white wine (optional)
Preparation steps
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Rinse the trout and pat dry with paper towels. Season with salt inside and out, add pepper.
- Stuff the cavity of each trout with garlic slices, lemon slices and fresh parsley. Sprinkle with rosemary if using.
- Place the trout on the tray, drizzle with olive oil and the juice of one lemon. If using wine, pour it around the fish.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the flesh is white and tender and the skin takes on a golden hue.
- Remove from the oven, let rest for 3–4 minutes. Serve with fresh lemon slices, chopped parsley and a drizzle of olive oil on top.
Prep time: 10 minutes. Cook time: 20–25 minutes. Servings: 4.
