“I don’t know how it can be blocked with 83 mandates!” – Berisha took the allies’ pulse, but they told him their criticism to his face

Sali Berisha gathered his political allies to discuss the response to the Territorial Reform, with proposals ranging from nationwide protests to a boycott of the elections.

After the meeting, Berisha did not announce a concrete decision, but stressed protest as the opposition’s main path against the majority.

Ahead of the vote on the Territorial Reform and the local elections, Sali Berisha gathered 15 of his allies at headquarters for a first test.

He showed the aim right in his opening remarks, stating that he was seeking his collaborators’ opinion on the response to the majority if it does not withdraw from the project to dissolve 15 municipalities.

“It is a situation, then, in which I thought I should also consult with you on this important issue,” Berisha declared.

Berisha’s allies proposed everything from protest to a boycott of the elections.

“There is a need for a revival, not only of the renewal of the DP, but a renewal of the whole coalition,” declared Fatmir Mediu, head of the Republican Party.

“My proposal is that we call a nationwide protest, all Albanians should be in Tirana,” said Tedi Blushi, Secretary General of the Freedom Party.

“I quite agree,” Berisha said.

“I think they should not take part in the elections at all, if they continue with imposition — what was that about?” declared Arjan Starova, head of the BLD.

Nard Ndoka was critical of Berisha, even though the two agreed on not accepting a boycott.

“The opposition has the political responsibility, telling the godfather that we will block you. This is not about just calling some protest for no reason. You gave Rama a honeymoon and left us in the dark,” the head of the Christian Democratic Party, Nard Ndoka, said, among other things.

“Abandoning the institutions is in the interest of the dictatorship,” Berisha said.

“I say let us block it, not abandon it,” Ndoka said.

“How it can be blocked with 83 mandates, I don’t know,” the Democratic leader continued.

After listening to all the allies, Sali Berisha did not reveal the decision either at the open-doors meeting or after the cameras left, but repeated the call that protests must be held, without a date for when.

“The only path is protest for his removal.”
