Baker Mayfield suffers dislocated right finger in Buccaneers’ loss to Vikings
Tampa Bay Buccaneers starter Baker Mayfield suffered a dislocated right finger late in the fourth quarter of the 23-16 loss to the Vikings. Head coach Todd Bowles said Mayfield will undergo an MRI on Monday, while X-rays showed no fracture. The injury occurred when Minnesota linebacker Blake Cashman hit Mayfield on a fourth-and-seven play with the team trailing 20-16; the pass was intercepted by Andrew Van Ginkel and Mayfield immediately fell to the ground clutching his hand in pain, then headed to the bench and the locker room with the medical staff.
According to the NFL, Mayfield had signed a three-year, $165 million deal before the season, but struggled in the first two games and was not in his usual rhythm on Sunday either before getting hurt. At the time he left the game, he had completed 17 of 34 passes for 217 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.
Jalon Daniels, who went undrafted, replaced Mayfield for the game’s final series. As the NFL reports, the team will await the MRI results to determine treatment and recovery time.
