Ben-Gvir vows death penalty for West Bank attack perpetrator
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir vowed on Sunday to impose the death penalty on the perpetrator of the gun attack in the West Bank, in which an Israeli settler was killed. According to Ben-Gvir, this is the first case that meets the criteria of “the law on the death penalty for terrorists that we passed.”

“The perpetrator of today’s attack is alive, therefore the death penalty is mandatory. We demand the implementation of the law on the death penalty for terrorists and the execution of the sentence against the perpetrator of this attack,” Ben-Gvir said.
The Israeli parliament has passed legislation providing for the death penalty for Palestinians convicted of deadly attacks — a law that does not apply to Jewish citizens of Israel and which has been enthusiastically welcomed by the country’s far right.
The Israeli army said the perpetrator of the attack, who it says is a member of Hamas, was captured after the incident near Ramallah. Tensions in the West Bank have risen sharply in recent months, with settler attacks on Palestinians rising by 63 percent in the first half of 2026, according to data cited by Israeli Army Radio.
