Benedict Cumberbatch goes full “John Wick”: first teaser for Guy Ritchie’s crime thriller “Wife and Dog” — in cinemas February 19, 2027
Guy Ritchie has released the first teaser for his new film, “Wife and Dog,” giving fans a first taste of a crime thriller that promises to be one of the most anticipated titles of 2027.
The star is Benedict Cumberbatch, in a role against his type: from the famous Sherlock Holmes, he now appears in an action “beast-mode” version, with a finale that cinema journalists compare to Keanu Reeves in “John Wick.”
The cast is packed with big names: Anthony Hopkins, Rosamund Pike, Paddy Considine, James Norton and Cosmo Jarvis (of “Shōgun”). Hopkins sets the tone from the teaser.
The film follows the battle over the Fairbank family inheritance: the family’s relentless greed and that of its collaborators feeds betrayal and murder in the fight for succession — a premise early reviews compare to the series “Succession.”
The teaser arrives during an unusually fertile period for Ritchie: the second season of “The Gentlemen” debuted on Netflix on September 3, the series “MobLand” returned successfully this week, while his film “In the Grey” is shining in streaming. This is the first time Ritchie has worked with Cumberbatch — the irony being that the director helmed the two “Sherlock Holmes” films and produces the series “Young Sherlock.”
The film hits cinemas on February 19, 2027.
