Billiards or a gun? Israel striker sparks controversy, sent off
A goal celebration cost striker Abu Farchi dearly during the Nations League encounter between Austria and Israel.
The 20-year-old headed Israel level in the 55th minute of the second half. Immediately after his first goal for the national team, Farchi pulled out the corner flag to simulate a billiards shot.
This manner of celebration is well known, as he regularly uses it in the American championship as well. However, pulling the flag out of the ground cost him a second yellow card and a sending-off.
Being left with one player fewer severely penalized Israel, who in the end were beaten 3-1 by Austria. In addition, the celebration was massively commented on social media as simulating a firearm, sparking many reactions.
The striker was forced to clarify his gesture on Instagram, before switching his profile to private after the negative reactions.
