Boban unfiltered: Infantino will be re-elected without a problem! I don’t like Amorim, Sucic has so much class

Zvonimir Boban, the distinguished former Croatian midfielder of Milan and UEFA’s “Chief of Football” until 2024, has spoken unfiltered to “Radio Anch’io Sport”. He touched on various hot topics of the moment, from the FIFA elections, to Milan and Petar Sucic’s situation at Inter.

“The conflict between FIFA and UEFA? I believe that in the end everything will calm down, nobody will wage war on anybody. Despite some mistakes — and I have criticised him — we cannot dismiss the good things Infantino has done. In the end, the vote will be for him.

I don’t think there will be opposition, but even if there is, it will not have the strength to beat him. He has controlled Asia; South America and Africa have stayed with him. Europe, I don’t believe, is as homogeneous as is thought. Then there is always UEFA’s desire to show that it is stronger than FIFA. But FIFA is the one that governs.”

On the future of the World Cup, Boban said: “A World Cup with 64 teams? The game must not be lost. We have a European Championship with 24 teams out of 55, a World Cup every 4 years with 48 teams out of 211 federations. I don’t think it will expand to 64 teams, but it would not be a drama if it happens. I don’t see it as a tragedy that small countries are given the opportunity to take part every 4 years. I don’t see it as a problem to have more teams; it is beautiful to see small nations grow and enjoy themselves.”

Moving on to Milan, where the Croatian stressed: “We cannot be mediocre. If it is accepted every year that the greatest ambition is to go to the Champions League, it means I have understood nothing about Milan. If Amorim, with the spirit he has given the team, manages to change things for the better and win the Europa League with a not very complete squad, we will all be happy.

But I have doubts, as does all of footballing Italy. Amorim? It is still early, but I never like it when he plays with three at the back. Against Lecce it went better than in the other matches, but we are at the beginning of the process; we must give him a little time. He must convince with results.”

Finally, a comment on Petar Sucic: “I think he should have more space; he is a complete, extraordinary player, with a lot of class and a lot of courage. It is clear that he does not feel well. If it continues like this, I don’t know what sense it makes for him to stay at Inter. He is one of the best midfielders in the world.”
