British-Iranian arrested over RAF Fairford base incident released on bail — investigation continues
A 25-year-old dual British and Iranian national, arrested in connection with the security incident at the British air base RAF Fairford last month, has been released on bail, counter-terrorism police announced, according to Al Jazeera reporting.
The young man was arrested on Thursday in central London on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts, as part of the investigation into events near RAF Fairford base in south-west England. Five other men, arrested on Sunday on suspicion of explosives and terrorism offences near the air base in Gloucestershire, were released on bail earlier this week.
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said there are “strong indications that Iran played a role” in the incident — a claim Tehran has rejected. The investigation continues, police announced. The incident has strained London–Tehran relations: Iran summoned the British ambassador last week over what it called “false accusations”, while British authorities treat the matter as a serious threat to national security.
