British police: No explosives in the vans near RAF Fairford — only petrol was seized
Counter-terrorism police in Britain have revealed that no explosive device was found in the investigation into a suspected plot against Fairford air base, as Al Jazeera reports. According to the authorities, only a quantity of petrol was seized from the vehicles at the scene.
The revelation comes two days after British police released on bail on Monday the five people arrested over the suspected attack plot against the base — one of the key points that United States forces have used for attacks on Iran.
The investigation had raised the alarm on both sides of the Atlantic, with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio having declared last week that a ‘foreign actor’ was suspected of being behind the plot. British police, for their part, have softened their tone, defending the decision to release the suspects on bail.
Although no explosives were found, the investigation continues and the authorities have not yet ruled out any line of inquiry into the motive and possible links of the incident.
