Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers open the season in Raleigh
The 2026-27 regular season begins on September 29 with the matchup between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh. The reigning Stanley Cup champions take the ice as a banner is raised to the rafters to mark the start of their title defense, and captain Jordan Staal said a mix of emotions will accompany the season opener in a game full of special memories.
As Bleacher Report notes, the Florida Panthers are in Raleigh to open the 2026-27 regular season against the Hurricanes; the team arrives largely healthy, with the notable exception of Jonah Gadjovich.
The teams take the ice with several confirmed absences: B. Marchand (LW) is out with a lower-body injury, while S. Jarvis (center) remains sidelined with a shoulder issue. Coaches and medical staffs are expected to evaluate their lineups before puck drop.
The presence of two rival teams and the opening game promise an intense atmosphere for fans following the event from the arena and on broadcasts. After the game, recaps and updates will be available from Bleacher Report.
