Celtics sign Devin Carter and update team depth chart ahead of training camp

The Boston Celtics have signed guard Devin Carter, the 13th pick in the 2024 NBA draft, who is expected to compete for a roster spot or a two-way contract ahead of training camp.

As Bleacher Report reports, after this addition the updated team depth chart shows a strong presence in the backcourt and depth at the center positions: Derrick White is expected to hold the point guard position as the starter, with Payton Pritchard and veteran Mike Conley as alternatives; Baylor Scheierman is expected to take the shooting guard role after Jaylen Brown’s departure to the Philadelphia 76ers, while Paul George, Jayson Tatum and Neemias Queta cover the other positions with reserves such as Jordan Walsh, Mitchell Robinson and Luka Garza offering support.

Carter arrives in Boston after a stint in Sacramento, where the team had activated the third-year option for him before the 2025–26 season. In his second season he appeared in 38 games with 12 starts, averaging 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 18.4 minutes, and reached a personal record of 29 points, including six three-pointers, in a game against the Golden State Warriors.

Carter was traded to the Atlanta Hawks during the 2026 draft and was recently waived; now he will have the chance to prove himself in the Celtics’ training camp as the team looks to replace Jaylen Brown’s production and return to contention for the 2026–27 title, per Bleacher Report.
