Checks with smart cameras in Korça, Traffic Police fines 257 drivers for improper overtaking

The Korça Traffic Police have stepped up checks on all roads in the district using smart devices, fining hundreds of drivers for violations of the Highway Code.

In one week, 257 fines were issued for improper overtaking, 233 for improper stopping of the vehicle, 97 for failing to yield to pedestrians at the white lines, 74 for not wearing a protective helmet, 61 for not wearing a seat belt and 25 for using a mobile phone while driving.

In addition, 6 measures were issued for tinted windows without authorization or beyond it, 4 measures for driving a vehicle under the effect of alcohol, and 317 other measures for various violations of the Highway Code.

According to the Police, the checks will continue on urban, interurban and rural roads in order to increase road safety. The officers call on drivers to respect the traffic rules, and invite citizens to report any violation to the number 112.
