Congress Defies Trump on Iran War! House Votes for Third Time to End the Conflict

The U.S. House of Representatives has voted for the third time to limit President Donald Trump’s ability to continue military operations against Iran without Congressional authorisation.

The war powers resolution passed with 220 votes in favour and 204 against, with the support of all Democrats and seven Republicans.

The war, launched on February 28, is approaching its seventh month and has become an increasingly important issue for U.S. domestic politics, particularly due to rising fuel prices and inflation.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, the conflict has cost the U.S. more than $38 billion so far, while continued operations could cost another $2-3 billion per month.

Democrats argue the president should not wage a prolonged war without Congressional approval, while Republicans who support Trump say Iran continues to pose a threat to the U.S. and its allies.

However, the resolution’s path remains difficult: Trump is expected to veto it if it reaches his desk.
