Congressman Thomas Massie files 8 articles of impeachment against Hegseth over strikes in Iran, Yemen and the Caribbean

Outgoing Republican Congressman Thomas Massie has filed eight articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, accusing him of unlawful strikes against Iran and Yemen, as well as unauthorized killings of Venezuelans in boats in the Caribbean Sea.

Massie read his claims aloud on the House floor, including allegations of “abuse of power” and “abuse of authority as Secretary of War to carry out unauthorized military strikes, unlawful killings and attempts to conceal wrongdoing from Congress”.

The impeachment resolution is unlikely to pass in the Republican-controlled House, but could force a vote on the legality of the Trump administration’s strikes against Iran and Yemen, as well as in the Caribbean Sea.

Massie, a rare Republican critic of Trump, of the war against Iran and of US aid to Israel, is expected to leave Congress in January after losing the May primaries to a candidate who received millions of dollars from pro-Trump and pro-Israel lobby groups.
