Controls return at the border crossing between Albania and Kosovo
The summer season has ended, and with it the high flow of movements between the two countries, Albania and Kosovo, as A2 CNN reports. With the end of the summer season, controls also return at the border crossing.
Under an agreement between the two countries, from 1 May to September, crossing on both sides of the border took place without border controls for citizens traveling in vehicles with Albanian and Kosovo license plates.
But, under the agreement between the two countries, during the non-summer season, citizens of Albania and Kosovo will cross the border under the normal procedures and will be subject to document checks. However, the facilitated regime will continue during weekends and official holidays.
So far, no waits or long queues have been recorded on either side of the Albania–Kosovo border. Data from the Border and Migration Directorate in Kukës show a considerable flow of movements during the summer months.
For the June–August period, from Kosovo toward Albania, through the Morina border crossing, 2 million 197 thousand 667 Kosovo citizens entered. Meanwhile, toward Kosovo, through the Vërmica border crossing, 887 thousand 972 Albanian citizens left Albania.
