Corruption and Abuse of Office: AMP Arrests a Durrës Police Officer, Two Others Referred for Prosecution

An operation by the Police Oversight Agency (AMP) led to the flagrante delicto arrest of one police officer and the referral of two other officers, who will remain at liberty, on suspicion of corruption and abuse of office.

The operation was finalized on September 15, 2026, under criminal proceeding no. 100/2026, following an investigation conducted with special methods by the Durrës–Kavajë Regional Directorate, in cooperation with the AMP’s General Directorate, under the direction of the Durrës Prosecution of General Jurisdiction.

At the end of the operation, officer S.M., serving in the General Patrol Service Corps, was arrested in flagrante delicto.

Meanwhile, for the criminal offense of “Abuse of Office”, two other police officers were referred while at liberty: S.H., Order Specialist at the Durrës Police Commissariat, and A.K., serving in the General Patrol Service Corps at the Durrës Police Commissariat.

“The investigation was conducted under the criminal proceeding for the criminal offenses of ‘Passive Corruption of Persons Exercising Public Functions’ and ‘Abuse of Office’. After the procedural actions were completed, the compiled materials were referred to the Prosecution at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Tirana, which will continue with further actions according to the law. AMP will continue to exercise its legal competencies for the identification, documentation and striking of cases of illegality, corruption and abuse of office among the employees of the structures it oversees,” the official statement said.
