Court rules: Tempi stationmaster’s phone may be examined as evidence
The Larissa court, where the trial over the Tempi rail tragedy of February 28, 2023 is being held, ruled on Tuesday that the confiscated cellphone of the stationmaster on duty on the night of the accident that claimed 57 lives may be handed over for forensic examination, as eKathimerini reports.
According to eKathimerini’s reporting, after this decision police experts will examine the device for incoming and outgoing calls, text and multimedia messages, as well as communications via apps such as Viber. If any file has been deleted, the forensic experts will attempt to recover it.
The request to examine the phone was initially filed by a lawyer representing relatives of the tragedy’s victims, eKathimerini writes.
The trial of the defendants in the Tempi disaster is ongoing, while recent hearings have been hearing testimony from relatives of those who lost their lives in the worst rail accident in Greece’s history.
