Critical situation from wildfires in Peqin, flames engulf several villages, dozens of forces and two helicopters on the ground

Wildfires have engulfed several areas of the Peqin municipality today (October 2), creating a difficult situation in the administrative units of Përparim, Pajovë and Bishqem. The flames have spread across a wide territory, while dozens of forces and two helicopters have been engaged in the operation to extinguish them.

The first outbreaks were reported in the Galush and Gjevur areas, in the Përparim Administrative Unit, where the fire has engulfed around 25 hectares of olive groves, fruit trees and shrubs. During the midday hours, the flames spread further and new outbreaks appeared in Pajovë and Bishqem, expanding the area affected by the fire.

The situation has been made harder by the broken terrain, the dense vegetation and the wind, which has favoured the spread of the flames in different directions. The main concern remains the fire approaching inhabited areas.

Dozens of firefighting forces, emergency vehicles and support teams from Peqin and the surrounding municipalities have been engaged in dealing with the situation. Air intervention has also been requested in support of the operation. Two helicopters have been engaged against the most problematic outbreaks, while ground teams are working to isolate them and create protective barriers.
