The Chicago Cubs secured participation in the 2026 MLB playoffs after a 2-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Thursday. This success came just minutes after the Chicago White Sox also confirmed their qualification, sealing the Cubs’ season rebuild and the team’s return to the postseason for the second straight year.

The Cubs’ season has been dark and complicated by injuries and various stretches of form: the team had two 10-game winning streaks and a 10-game losing streak within the same season. Almost at the start of the year, supposed ace Cade Horton missed most of the season with Tommy John surgery, while Justin Steele also gradually returned making rehab appearances in September. Others like Matthew Boyd, Edward Cabrera and Ben Brown spent long periods out, with Brown missing the season due to a setback during rehab.
