Çupi on the Code changes: We lived as in communism, anyone who went to SPAK was considered guilty
Frrok Çupi, in an interview on “NewsLine” on ABC News, commented on the changes to the Criminal Procedure Code that were earlier also presented by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
During the interview, Çupi said that the new changes to the Criminal Code will bring positive effects. According to him, the changes establish a fairer relationship between persons under investigation and the principle of the presumption of innocence.
“What impresses most is the humanism of the judicial process and of the law. If we look at all these things that are happening, we have apparently lived in the time of communism. That is, fear was struck, and fear is very grave in relations with justice, especially with prosecutors. They exercise their ignorance in the end. In the sense of the law and the court we are dealing with a special sense for vulnerable people, for weak people, and there is an interesting relationship between the one who is considered under investigation and those who are innocent. Because until today you were considered guilty as soon as the letter went to the prosecutor’s office. So all this fully restores that as long as you are innocent you are declared innocent, and this is a breath of fresh air,” he said, among other things.
Çupi further raised concern about the situations that have been created, emphasizing that the persecution situation being experienced is terrible, while he also appealed for the protection of privacy.
“We are experiencing the persecution situation and this is terrible, and the changes in this law come to do a lot of work. It is also important to protect privacy,” he said.
