Details from the TNT explosion in Shkodër: perpetrator disguised as a pizza delivery man

New details have emerged from the TNT explosion last night, September 12, in the center of Shkodër.

The explosive placed at the home of citizen Mehdin Bushati, very close to the Shkodër municipality building, is believed to have been planted by a person who then fled on a motorbike.

According to security cameras, the suspected perpetrator is believed to have acted alone, disguised as a pizza delivery man — wearing a helmet and with his motorbike modified to look like those used for pizza deliveries.

After the TNT explosion, in which no one was injured and only material damage was caused, citizen Mehdin Bushati, a teacher by profession, stated that he has no knowledge regarding the incident.

The teacher, who was at home with his wife when the incident occurred, has reportedly not been very cooperative with the police, according to sources.

According to the investigation team’s findings so far, the explosive may be linked to the teacher’s brother, citizen Gëzim aka Naser Bushati, who has lived in Germany for years and was last in Albania 2–3 years ago. Teacher Mehdin Bushati lives on the first floor, while the building’s second floor belongs to his brother.

Gëzim Bushati, who changed his name to Naser, was reportedly previously sentenced to prison — once to 5 years and another time to two years — in Romania and Germany.

Due to troubles he may have abroad, Shkodër’s local police suspect the explosive was thrown at his home as a threatening message.

It is also believed that the suspected perpetrator is a hired individual who approaches, throws the explosive inside the yard, and then leaves in an unknown direction without a trace.

So far, the investigation team has not yet identified the masked perpetrator, and work continues through security camera footage.

The explosion at around 9:30 last night in Shkodër was very powerful, shaking residents in the city center and other areas. At the same time, dozens of tourists in the area around the center were badly frightened.

At the time of the incident, just a few meters away in the square in front of the Shkodër municipality, a concert with music and games for children and Shkodër families was underway.

Police continue working to fully solve this serious incident.
