Đukanović: I have never met Ilija Srdanović — everything written is ‘a pure lie’

Milo Đukanović, the former president of Montenegro, told the newspaper Pobjeda that he has never met Ilija Srdanović, the lead candidate of the “Students Win” list in Serbia, as Danas reports.

Any rumor of meetings with him is a “pure lie” serving the election campaign underway in Serbia. “I have many friends in Serbia, among them many doctors. Dr. Srdanović is not one of them. I have not even had the pleasure of meeting him. Everything that has been written and said in panic in recent weeks is a lie and serves the election campaign,” Đukanović said, quoted from the interview with the Podgorica newspaper Pobjeda.

He praised Srdanović for ignoring this hunt “with dignity and superiority,” saying that today “it is not at all easy to be a Montenegrin in Serbia.”

Đukanović added that Greater-Serbian nationalists are creating in Serbia an atmosphere “similar to that of the late 19th century, when Montenegrins were expelled from Serbia,” but believes it will be “short-lived” and that “the majority, normal Serbia does not support it.”
