Elbasan Municipal Council votes in favor of merging with Cërrik and Belsh

The Elbasan Municipal Council today gave the green light to the administrative-territorial reorganization proposal, which foresees the merger of the Municipality of Elbasan with the Municipalities of Cërrik and Belsh.

The decision was made after the process of public consultations held in the territory, which reflected the positions and proposals of citizens and local actors. According to official data, 670 people took part in the consultations, of whom 513 spoke in favor of the reform, while 67 were against.

Of the 51 members of the Municipal Council, 36 councillors took part in the vote. Of them, 26 voted in favor and 2 against, while the rest did not express a vote for or against.

In the adopted opinion, the Municipal Council stresses that the reorganization must guarantee the continuity and quality of public services, as well as the access and representation of communities in the new territory.
