EMS: Serbia’s transmission grid ready for winter, power consumption down 17%
Serbia’s electricity transmission system is fully ready for the coming winter. This was stated by the chief dispatcher of Elektromreža Srbije (EMS), Dragan Rakić, in an interview with RTS, emphasizing that the company prepares the grid all year round, not only before the cold season.
According to him, in the past two months very high temperatures caused large transits and loads on the grid, due to which some planned outages were not carried out on time. However, these have now been compensated and, as Rakić stressed, “all planned repairs of the transmission lines have been completed.” “We postponed this work to keep the system at a high level for the needs not only of Serbia, but also of the regional system,” he said, adding that the postponed outages are now being compensated and the transmission grid is awaiting winter prepared.
Rakić also spoke about summer energy consumption, revealing that a record of 95–98 million kilowatt-hours per day was registered. In early September, daily consumption was around 91–92 million kWh, while currently, with falling temperatures, it has dropped to 80–82 million kWh per day — 17–18% less than the summer peak, as Serbian daily Danas reports.
