Energy losses, Kukës on top with 34.9%, Fier the lowest

Electricity losses in the distribution network have continued to fall during 2026 as well. In the first eight months of the year, total losses fell to 15.6%, from 16.96% at the end of 2025. But the differences between regions remain large.

According to the Distribution System Operator (OSSH), Kukës leads with the highest losses, which shows that besides the technical losses created by network depreciation, theft through meters is also high.

In this area, 34.9% of the energy fed into the network turns out to be lost. After Kukës comes Shkodra, with 29.06%, while in some counties losses have fallen below 10% in three regions.

In the total of the regional directorates, the loss rate fell to 14.5%, from 15.9% in 2025. Including also the losses in high voltage and the other elements of the energy balance, the total losses in the OSSH network resulted in 15.6%.

In total, the indicator has improved by about 3.3 percentage points compared to 2023, when losses were 18.93%.

OSSH forecasts that 2026 will close with losses of around 15.9% in the distribution network.
