EPP finalizes report on SNS’s status — publication after the October 25 elections
The European People’s Party (EPP), the largest political group in the European Parliament, is finalizing the report on the status of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in its ranks — that is, on the possible expulsion of president Aleksandar Vučić’s party — as the portal Danas reports today, citing the reporting of the Brussels portal Politico.
According to Politico, the report on the SNS, which is an associate member of the EPP, will nevertheless not be published before the early parliamentary elections in Serbia on October 25, in order to “avoid interference” in the electoral process.
At its political assembly held yesterday, the EPP expressed “distrust” toward the SNS and publicly condemned the marking of the death of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić, Danas announced.
EPP chairman Manfred Weber announced in September of last year the launch of the internal review process of the SNS’s role within the European group, while in mid-September of this year it was confirmed that the procedure against the Serbian party had begun, among other things for glorifying war criminals, according to Politico’s reporting.
The completion of the report by the largest group in the European Parliament puts the question of the SNS’s status on Brussels’ agenda immediately after the October 25 vote — while until then its content will remain closed to the public.
