Ergys Agasi denies meetings with Vlora Hyseni; lawyer Haxhia speaks for the SPAK defendant: He challenges anyone over those conversations
Ergys Agasi has reacted through his lawyer, Maksim Haxhia, regarding the data and claims made public within the framework of SPAK’s investigations.
Haxhia conveyed his client’s version, disputing the claims linked to meetings with the former director of SHISH, Vlora Hyseni, as well as to the documents allegedly found in Agasi’s vehicle.
In the interview given to Top Channel journalist Anila Hoxha, speaking about Agasi’s position, Haxhia declared:
“I am stating what I discussed with the client and he told me: none of that is true. The head of the intelligence service has never been in my office. I have never met her, in the sense of having ongoing meetings. What they keep, in terms of how that institution functions, is another matter, I do not know that…, whether there is a connection, whether she is an asset, whether she is in the service… I cannot say that. I only know to say that he issues a challenge. He told me that he challenges anyone to say: ‘I have cooperated with state secrets’ and secondly: ‘That documents were found in the car I had at home’.”
Regarding the claims about the documents and materials allegedly found in Agasi’s vehicle, the lawyer disputed the version made public and declared that his client is ready to confront these claims.
“He challenges anyone over those conversations they have released to the media or in public, and says: ‘If it were true that in my car, which was there, it did not move, because it has been proven that it is not the car with which the kidnapping was carried out, materials of the intelligence service were found.’ They have put in Agasi’s mouth that he declared: ‘I had these documents and I left them in the car.’ No, it is not true; I was there in the proceedings. That is what he disputes. He says: let the prosecution and anyone else confront them.”
Haxhia also raised questions about the publication of some telephone communications, arguing that, according to him, they are of no interest to the investigation. The lawyer demanded that any material claimed to exist be included in the investigation file, so that the defence can challenge it through legal means.
“We demand that the prosecution distance itself, or, if they are true, put them in the file — not for a criminal complaint to be filed against the prosecution. No: put them in the file and let us fight face to face, that is, let us have the legal duel with the evidence you have. But I repeat, I do not believe the prosecution released them, because it does not have them, it cannot have them. …For us, as the defence, they have made our defence almost impossible. This pattern keeps starting over: by doing things in public, the public is charged up, and then we have to explain ourselves to the public and only then do the legal defence. For me, a strategy and tactic has been created to place Mr Agasi before guilt.”
Earlier, the court approved three measures requested by SPAK for disclosure of secrets and support of the perpetrator of the crime, among them for the former head of SHISH, who is being held under house arrest.
The above statements represent the position of Ergys Agasi’s defence. SPAK’s investigations and claims continue to be part of the ongoing process.
