Eurocodes Knock on the Door: Experts Call for Unified Rules for Safer Construction

North Macedonia’s construction industry is preparing for the biggest turnaround of recent decades. The European Eurocodes – the full set of European standards for design and construction – are expected to replace the old norms and become the sole basis for the design and construction of buildings in the country.

The construction profession is categorical: the Eurocodes must be introduced as soon as possible and in the future everything must be designed and built only according to them. Experts call for an end to the parallel application of the old 1980s standards and the European ones – the Eurocodes must become the sole national standard.

According to experts, their introduction will bring safer and more sustainable buildings, better quality and higher standards in all phases of construction, as well as better working conditions for the sector’s workers.

The key question for citizens remains the price per square meter. Experts say the new rules do not automatically mean more expensive apartments – greater safety does not necessarily equal higher costs for buyers, as reported by Ratsin.
