Fake-certificate scandal hits another Swiss player: after Xhaka, Embolo also out of the squad for fraud

The fake vaccination-certificate scandal is shaking Switzerland’s national team again, as after Granit Xhaka another big name has been caught in the same whirlpool of trouble.

It is the well-known striker Breel Embolo, who has been put in the spotlight and removed/suspended from Switzerland’s camp.

Embolo is expected to miss the national team’s upcoming Nations League matches, as the striker is reported to have already been penalized and fined by Swiss courts for using false documents (forging the Covid certificate).

This development comes right after the uproar caused by the guilty admission and withdrawal of captain Granit Xhaka for the same reason — a heavy sporting and image blow to the Swiss Football Federation.
