“Fantasma”: world premiere of Benjamin Benne’s new play Off-Broadway — full cast revealed

Primary Stages has revealed the cast and creative team for the world premiere of “Fantasma,” the new play written by Benjamin Benne and directed by Laurie Woolery, as BroadwayWorld reports. The production is presented by Primary Stages and the Lucille Lortel Theatre, in association with Jan McAdoo.

The cast of “Fantasma” consists of Zabryna Guevara — known from the series “Gotham” and the New York theater scene — Alma Martinez, Camila Moreno, Elizabeth Ramos, Nancy Rodriguez and Adriana Sevan. According to BroadwayWorld, the creative team includes set designer Efren Delgadillo Jr., costume designer Haydee Zelideth, lighting by Mextly Couzin, and original music and sound design by Daniela Hart, Noel Nichols, Bailey Trierweiler & UptownWorks. Antonia Cruz-Kent is the assistant director, while casting was by The Telsey Office.

On Christmas Eve, three generations of women gather in Rosie’s newly renovated kitchen to cook chuchitos — the traditional Guatemalan recipe passed down “by heart, by touch and by intuition.” As the granddaughters try to document the cooking step by step, they discover that what is being preserved is not only the food — and that recording and remembering are two entirely different things. The play, spanning almost two decades, is described as “a bittersweet exploration of what we hold on to, what we lose, and the impossibility of ever capturing it exactly as it was.”

Previews of “Fantasma” begin on November 7, 2026 at Theater A of 59E59 Theaters in Manhattan, the official opening night is set for November 22, and the limited run will continue until December 20, 2026. Primary Stages is the resident Off-Broadway company at 59E59 Theaters — the three-stage theater center on East 59th Street that has hosted around 30 productions a year since 2004.
