Fier traffic police step up road checks, more than 1,000 fines issued

Fier’s Traffic Police have stepped up checks on the road network of the Fier district, aiming to prevent accidents and manage traffic through monitoring with smart devices on urban and interurban roads and at entry-exit points.

In a statement shared with the media, police said that during the past week five citizens were criminally prosecuted for various violations of the Road Code.

According to the police, one person was arrested for driving while intoxicated, while three others were prosecuted for driving without a license — one of them arrested and two prosecuted while at large.

In addition, one citizen was prosecuted for violating traffic rules with an accident as the consequence.

During the preventive checks, the following were issued:

989 administrative measures for speeding on interurban roads and on the A2 highway;

40 measures for not using the seat belt;

4 measures for using a mobile phone while driving;

35 measures for wrong overtaking;

6 measures for driving under the influence of alcohol;

112 measures for other violations of traffic rules, which are a potential source of accidents.

Meanwhile, checks continue on vehicles carrying out pupil transport, with the aim of guaranteeing their safety on the move.

During the week, 3 administrative measures were issued, after public transport vehicles were found without the relevant documentation.
