Filipçe: Mickoski has no intention of continuing the European path — “we will remain isolated”
SDSM leader Venko Filipçe accused Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski of having no intention of continuing the country’s European path and of using the request for additional help and mediation from the European Union as a justification, according to the 48chasa.mk portal, which broadcast his statement today.
“Everything Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski says — that it must be done, that some help is needed, some European Union representative — is all lies. The man simply has no intention of continuing the country’s European path,” Filipçe said.
He recalled the 2022 proposal and the visits of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, claiming that VMRO-DPMNE had opposed the offered solution back then. According to Filipçe, Mickoski’s current presentation as a defender of national interests does not match the policy the Government is pursuing.
The opposition leader also mentioned the Prespa Agreement, the Macedonian language, and relations with Bulgaria, arguing that claims about threats to identity and language are being used to justify the stall in Euro-integration.
Filipçe warned that North Macedonia could lose the current opportunity for progress toward the EU, while, as he said, Albania, Montenegro, Ukraine, and Moldova continue on the European path. He called on Mickoski to say publicly what his plan is for the country’s European future. “What will we do? Does the prime minister have a plan? This is how we will remain isolated,” Filipçe said, accusing the Government of having “built a wall around the country” with its policy.
According to the SDSM leader, the consequences of this policy are already being felt through falling living standards, economic problems, and the emigration of citizens.
