Fire in Aspropyrgos disrupts Athens suburban rail service
The Athens suburban rail service (Proastiakos) was temporarily suspended on Monday morning after a fire broke out in a pile of waste near the tracks in Aspropyrgos, western Attica, as eKathimerini reports.
Authorities said the fire started in the “Nounou” area of the industrial district, which takes its name from the condensed-milk factory of the same name. Twelve firefighters with four vehicles were deployed to the scene, according to eKathimerini.
The West Attica Arson Investigation Unit also arrived at the site to establish the cause of the blaze. Earlier on Monday, the Fire Department was also called out for another waste and low-vegetation fire in the Lakka Katsari area — also in Aspropyrgos.
