Fires in Peqin continue at high intensity, dozens of forces on the ground, aerial intervention expected

The fires in Peqin continued at high intensity on the morning of this Saturday as well. Hundreds of personnel and dozens of vehicles from 11 municipalities have been engaged on the ground since 05:00, in an effort to bring the active outbreaks under control.

The situation remains serious in the territory of the Peqin Municipality, with fire outbreaks in the administrative units of Përparim and Pajovë. The change in the direction and strength of the wind is favoring the spread of the flames and significantly hampering the intervention of firefighting teams.

Firefighting forces, Civil Emergencies, the Armed Forces and residents of the affected areas are engaged in the operation. Dozens of firefighting and support vehicles from 11 municipalities are on the ground.

The forces are concentrated especially near inhabited areas, while other teams are working to open protective belts and isolate the active outbreaks.

So far, no direct risk to homes or livestock is reported. The toll so far includes only one old, uninhabited house, which was engulfed by flames yesterday afternoon.

Because of the fire’s dynamics and the constant change of the wind, the situation is being monitored continuously. Meanwhile, alongside the ground intervention, which continues to isolate and extinguish the outbreaks, aerial intervention is also expected during today.

The operation continues on several fronts, aiming to curb the spread of the flames and protect inhabited areas.
