First phase of the Kragujevac northern bypass opens to traffic: 5 km from the Jovanovac interchange to Petrovac
The public enterprise “Putevi Srbije” announced that today the first phase of the northern bypass around Kragujevac opened to traffic — a 5 km segment from the Jovanovac interchange to the Petrovac interchange. According to the announcement, the first phase includes two interchanges (Jovanovac and Petrovac), three underpasses (tunnel structures), one bridge and two deviations of municipal roads in Jovanovac and Petrovac.
Works on phases 2 and 3 of the northern bypass continue at an intensive pace, the enterprise announced. According to it, the opening of the first phase is an important step toward the completion of the northern bypass, which will contribute to safer and more efficient traffic and will ease the urban area of the city.
The new bypass is expected to take transit traffic out of the center of Kragujevac, shortening travel time and reducing congestion on urban roads. The project is considered part of efforts to modernize road infrastructure in Serbia.
