Flogert Muça: Berisha, the only one in Tirana upset by the arrival of the new U.S. ambassador

Analyst Flogert Muça has stated on Alba Alishani’s “Trialog” show on RTSH24 that Berisha is the only political figure in Tirana who seems upset by the arrival of the new U.S. ambassador, Eric Wendt.

According to the analyst, this stance was clearly reflected in the former prime minister’s failure to offer a greeting. He congratulated the American diplomat only after journalists put the question to him, also confirming that he has no invitation to the October 2 ceremony.

Turning to the right-wing camp’s recent moves abroad, Muça claimed that the visit to the United States had a clear lobbying background against the new ambassador.

“With the arrival of the new U.S. ambassador in Tirana, the only one upset in Tirana seemed to me to be Sali Berisha, unfortunately, and he did not greet him until the journalist asked him, and when she asked, he said he was welcome and that was it, and that he has no invitation for October 2, when the ceremony will be held, and so on. The only news about the Doctor there was that he boarded a plane and arrived in America. The rest was a mission completely outside politics in appearance, but with a mission to undo what had been voted in the Senate, to turn back the ambassador who has come to Tirana,” Muça said.

The analyst also revealed that Berisha’s real concern is tied to the appointment process of the American chief diplomat.

“The moment an ambassador is voted by the Senate and, under Article Two if I am not mistaken, the president signs it — the President of the U.S. So the president has it in his hands to undo it, to send him back a day earlier; even when the ambassador has arrived here and has not yet presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Albania, he can still withdraw him to Washington,” Muça explained.

According to Muça’s information, two other names had been mentioned earlier for this post, but Berisha had managed to block them before they entered the Senate process.

“According to the information I have, the Doctor lobbied for this to the end, because according to the information I have close to the Doctor, and according to what I know is his real concern, two other names were mentioned earlier and the Doctor managed to turn them back so that they would not enter the Senate process route to reach the president. According to him, even this name we now have — always according to Berisha — is the hand of the Albanian prime minister’s lobby,” he added.
