Focus – 60 percent of leaders mentioned AI in their speeches at the UN General Assembly
NEW YORK, 29 /ATSH-AA/ – More than 60 percent of world leaders referred to artificial intelligence during their high-level speeches at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
“According to our preliminary figures, more than 60 percent of speakers mentioned artificial intelligence in their speeches,” Melissa Summer, spokesperson for the president of the UN General Assembly, told reporters.
An analysis tracking the speeches of the general debate found references to artificial intelligence in 122 countries, reflecting the growing international attention to the rapid development of the technology, safeguards to limit risks, and autonomous systems.
The UN General Assembly official said that almost three-quarters of participants stressed climate challenges, while women made up about 14 percent of the speakers at the podium. Noting a slight increase from 12 percent in 2025, she warned that progress on representation remains “far from the pace needed”.
