FOCUS – Russia Strikes Kyiv with Ballistic Missiles

KYIV, Sept 24 /ATSH-DPA/ — Russia launched another ballistic missile attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, killing at least two people and wounding six others, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said today. After air-raid sirens were activated, several powerful explosions were heard across the city. Military-linked Telegram sources reported that at least 14 missiles were fired during the first three waves of the attack.

Klitschko said emergency crews were dispatched to several areas of Kyiv. In one part of the city, missile fragments damaged the windows and exterior of a maternity hospital. No one inside the building was injured, but one person was killed in the maternity hospital’s parking lot. In another area, a house was damaged and people may be trapped under the rubble. Local media also reported several fires in the city.

The attack began after 01:00 in the morning, a day after Kyiv issued 11 air-raid alerts. During the day, the city was repeatedly attacked by jet-powered combat drones moving at very high speed. Ukraine’s air defenses lack sufficient effective means to stop these drones, and Kyiv also lacks ammunition to shoot down ballistic missiles.

According to Klitschko, two people were killed and 45 others wounded in the attacks on Kyiv on Wednesday. Ukraine has been facing the full-scale Russian invasion for more than four and a half years.
