NEW YORK – Wadephul Warns of Escalating Russian Aggression in Europe

NEW YORK, Sept 24 /ATSH-DPA/ — German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul warned yesterday of growing Russian aggression against Europe. Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting in New York, Wadephul said Russia’s hybrid attacks on countries supporting Ukraine and international law have entered a new phase.

He cited the incident at Leipzig airport in Germany in early August. According to Wadephul, Russia had attempted to destroy two Ukrainian cargo planes with an explosive-laden drone. Russia has denied involvement in the incident. Wadephul said this was not an isolated case and that, in his view, Russia is escalating dangerous actions in Europe.

The German minister also said the war is causing consequences worldwide. He accused Russia of worsening hunger and food shortages, as attacks on Ukrainian ports block grain exports. Wadephul called for a complete and immediate ceasefire, as well as an exchange of prisoners of war. He also demanded a return to serious negotiations in good faith, in line with international law, with the goal of achieving a lasting and just peace.

According to Wadephul, Ukraine is ready to negotiate while Russia keeps refusing talks. He stressed that European countries and Germany are also ready to contribute to reaching a peaceful solution.
