Gonxhja: Preserving Heritage and Improving the Visitor Experience in Butrint

Work continues at the Butrint National Park to preserve and conserve cultural heritage, improve infrastructure and create a better experience for visitors.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, announced that work in Butrint is proceeding on several fronts, in cooperation with the Butrint Management Foundation.

“In Butrint we work every day to preserve heritage, to improve the visitor experience and to make the community part of the Park’s life,” Gonxhja said.

The interventions include the conservation of the ruins of the Roman Forum, the installation of new security infrastructure, and repair work on the Venetian Tower. In parallel, work has been done to improve the park’s infrastructure, with the aim of increasing safety and easing visitor movement.

Another initiative is the “Butrint for All” project, aimed at assisting people with mobility difficulties by creating better conditions for an inclusive visit.

In addition to infrastructure and conservation interventions, cultural activities are also held in Butrint, while grants support the local community and ensure its involvement in the life of the park.

According to Minister Gonxhja, the commitment to Butrint goes beyond the physical preservation of monuments, encompassing scientific research, culture, accessibility and cooperation with the community.

“We continue, together with the Butrint Management Foundation, our commitment to protecting this extraordinary asset and passing it on to future generations,” Gonxhja said.
