Zidane Springs Surprises with France: Diouf to Play at Left-Back

Inter’s Andy Diouf is ready to play his first match as a starter for France. He is expected to be on the pitch from the first minute in the Nations League clash against Turkey. He will even play in a new role, that of left-back.

The tactical choice was revealed by coach Zinedine Zidane himself during the press conference. A decision that has surprised the sports press in France. The daily “L’Équipe” called Zidane’s move a “courageous” decision, along with the return of Kylian Mbappé to the left flank and the positioning of Rayan Cherki in midfield.

Diouf plays on the right wing at Inter under coach Chivu. He is used to being the fifth man on the right line, but now he must adapt to another role in his career.

“If I play Warren Zaïre-Emery in midfield, I do it because I want to see him there, just as Andy Diouf, who plays a different role at Inter, but I want to see him as a left-back,” coach Zidane said.
